I needed to make a burner, for the Metisse engine.
The adopted Maiwald one wasn't right. Too small in diameter. Flame too close to the hot cap......  :scratch:

I love making odds n ends, out of bits n pieces. Found a stainless steel salt and pepper set. The cap diameter was just right.  :thumbup:

Friction turned a brass disc, base......

Silver solder wire, sprung inside the cap. Just enough flux........

Still glowing. Had an el of a job, unsticking the supporting nails. Bit too much solder.........

Opened the existing hole out to 12mm........

16mm o/d, 10mm bore, bush. More silver solder.........

6mm bore, adaptor bush. Temporary cotton wick. (I'm out of stove rope)........

The engine ran for 70 mins, on one filling........

Nice job... Looks great! What is the yellow parts you are holding the brass disc between - just wood or custom fixture?

The two plastic parts were made some time ago, to support some 1.5" dia copper tube, as I machined it...........

Blank plug. To support chuck jaws area. Bush to support tailstock end..........

Don't know the name of the plastic. It's a little softer than delrin. But, better than wood. Came from work......... 

For yesterday's application, I centre drilled the plug. Then mounted the bush in the chuck.

I must admit. It was more secure than the usual, chuck jaws/ insulation tape, set up. The disc never moved, despite some adventurous .020" passes........   :thumbup:

Cute little burner, ....  :bow:  where do you get all these bits of stainless from? Saw some SS containers in Wilkos some time ago, but they had transparent windows in the side ... useless buggers .... Grrrrrrr ...
 
I have some plastic bar that looks about the same, sort of 'waxy' to feel. [ Not that I make a habit of it  :scratch: .... err,.. very  much ]
 
It's HDPE, I think it is the same stuff they make underground gas pipes from ...
 
It did have 'HDPE and other bits' printed along the length, but my oily paws fetched it off ..

I get my bits from Wilkinsons, Tesco, Morrisons, etc......
You just have to be looking, when they've got the things which might come in handy...... One day. Mebbe!  :smart:

That's why I've got several stainless containers, of varying sizes. Awaiting a purpose in their lives. Same goes for the 9" dia stockpot, stored in my loft.......  :palm:

You can have the pepper pot, if it's any use to you.  :thumbup:


HDPE. That, rings a bell. And your description matches.
Though I never machined any, at work. Think it was used to make buffer type rings, for inside the rock drilling hammers.

Not a precision perforated pepper pot perchance ???
 
Nice offer, but it's better off in your hands I think. I lack your talent for seeing desirable things in somewhat mundane items ... all I would ever see is a pepper pot .... I have about as much imagination as the average house brick ...  :(
