For anyone like me, with disobedient fingers/ hands. I can recommend the cheap pistol grip. Works a treat!

More, gentle progress.

The original clevis, was ok for length, but, not easily adaptable for a graphite piston.
I like to have a spigot, with a flange either side of the piston crown.

So, I chopped off the end of the rod, and re drilled.......

If memory serves me right the original bore was 1 5/16" (1.3125"). What size are we at now,David?

I've had it maturing, on top of the wardrobe, since November.

It was a real pleasure to machine. Cutting very sweetly.
The final thou', was very easily controlled. Using the usual 6" rule, and 2000 grit wet n dry........

Not exactly sure on dia, as it was a hand rubbed final finish. Not far from 1.295".

I finished off the crank assembly, yesterday. Test run went ok.

At the other end. The 5 thou thick shutter, runs in a 25 thou deep recess. I thought it was rather a sloppy fit.

So, I milled off 10 thou, best I could, then polished the face, on a flat surface.......

Some fine mods you have made there David, and the visual improvements adding the extra wheel are great. Not sure I would like to work alongside the quacking all day, but it's tolerable for the video. Think I prefer the popper.

Not too much to show, for this week. But....... I've almost finished the final build!

I'm making several mods, and upgrades as I go along.

Before finally sealing the cylinder into the hopper, the bore caught my eye. All that time spent honing, was worth it........

Seven ball races, in the crank assembly. The fixed crankpin, links the two halves together.........

Then, the whole assembly is held by two countersunk M6 screws......

Building a bit. Test running a bit........ I'm pleased to report, the duck has flown! Normal popping has returned........

It's finally finished!!

An overcast/ bright, day. Perfect for the final pics and video, on the tartan, in my greenhouse.

Started up, in the workshop. Running faultlessly.

Filled with coolant. No surface ripples. So, crank must be balanced ok. Life is good........

Then, I noticed the spreading puddle of coolant, from the rear of hopper!

Time for another stripdown.....

You were right, Young Frazer. The Hylomar has rolled out of the groove, on assembly!

Also. The c/i cylinder is rusting, already.......

Sunds a lot better now David, Had to turn hearing aids down for the quacker. Shame about the coolant leak hope the o rings will sort it Without too much extra work.

Hi David, that is now a lovely looking engine with all your mods and the extra flywheel,and it runs very sweetly too. The water leak is a minor hiccup,sure you'll soon sort that out.

I am surprised to see the level of pitting and corrosion on the iron liner,maybe distilled or purified water would help.....OZ.

Distilled water would be far worse in the corrosion stats .

As it's been depleted of is mineral content all it want to do is get them back , that's why it's know as the universal solvent . Also do not drink it it will leach the minerals from gut .

It is a insulator as far as electricity is concerned ,they use it to wash down live HV glass insulators.

David why not use nest antifreeze as a coolant it has inhibitors in it to prevent corrosion

I used Bluecol top up mix, in my Robinson engine. It rusted, immediately!

The O ring idea, didn't work. Leaked, again........

So, I filled the groove with Hylomar. Then wrapped around with thick cotton. To fill the groove a little proud.
Then applied more Hylomar, once it was through the first bore, before entering it into the rear one.

It worked........

Now, using coolant mix, at 10/1. No rust, so far........

Well........ It's finally finished!

The sun was shining too brightly for the camera. The actual colour is Ford burgundy......
