What year and modell no idea.. its missing the drawbar for the horizontal spindle.. so i paid 1500 euro for it.. Took me a good 12 hours to get it home though..

I am sooooooooo envious! Lost bid on one 3000€ many years ago, one biker club had it but really didn't have much use for it. They put add on net and it was gone (sold and picked up few hours) later. It's a little, nice and compact machine.

MEW had a story of one Aciera refurb some years ago:

ah setup is gonna be a hassle.. my shop is located in a cellar.. So i need to get it down some stairs, through a narrow door by getting the base in first somehow and tilt it through. ;)
I think my friend "Caterpillar" will come by with a crane arm. ;D

And now i will start collect as much old info on this machine as i can. I have started finding out where i can get new collets the bastards renamed em (DIN 349 E) so that took a while. But wanna get hold of the accessories for this machine and some replacement parts of course. The previous owner was 91 year old inventor that fell off the face of the world. It has alot of strange modifications. Like small drilled and tapped holes for oil, centering the head easyily and so on..

It was kinda amusing to realize that the machine was more or less clean with only a thin oilfilm.. and it had been kept like that since it was bought.. Note only one previous owner on this.. gears inside the head and what i could gain access to was prestine. Im just bummed about the horizontal drawtube.. the son that sold the machine thought it got thrown away when they cleaned out the garage.. *sigh* so its on a landfill somewhere

.. i cried a bit on the inside.

That is one sweet sounding machine from the way you describe it. Just take it slow and easy when moving it into your basement it should all go well. I too would have a big grin on my face if I were unloading something like that. Enjoy the moment as they don't come often enough.

You've got yourself a very nice looking machine. The tilt and swivel table is a bonus.

Mine is in my cellar workshop but I have the advantage of a ramp into my cellar from outside. Even in bits it was a difficult enough job to get it in place and back together.

You got it for a good price but not as cheap as mine - £20! (It was missing the vertical head and all the horizontal spindle and the feed had been removed. I made my own vertical head.)

So we hade put in some concrete slabs under plastic outside.. it was rainy.. it sucked alot.

To prepare the move we put down a pallet of wood that was soaked in water on purpose, under it sat a small piece of 2x2 wood to slide on

I hade prepared the space forehand and put the motorlift in place

Then my friend arrived, he had the tractor with him.. Its good to have friends like these in times of need.

So after some tinkering, by putting the machine onto the pallet having the tractor push the pallet into the basement on the concrete floor (remember wet for a reason)
And some juggling with the motor lift the machine is in place

yeah, in the winter i just shut the doors, put on the boombox and crank up the heater.. and i spend a day tinkering with different whatnots.. in the summer i mostly use the shop for doing alteration on motor and gearbox parts.. The Aciera is gonna have to live a tough life cutting heads for my V8. =)

yeah its nice.. i have a small spirits furnace with a fan.. so when that is cranked on full it makes the room be around 24C in the midwinter.. you really dont wanna go outside and go inside. I suggested to my gf that i could make a hole in the floor and a stair.. but well she looked a bit skeptical... think it will need some persuasion ;)

Another question for you guys with aciera machines..

I have a 20mm collet.. that has "full depth".. but i bought an aftermarket 20mm collet, it only had like 12mm depth of grip.
Im wondering, where did that first 20mm collet come from.. it seems to be a "model A" collet as well.. can it be a inch collet like 3/4 that has been
stretched over time so it take 20mm straight shank.. it baffles med at the same time its awsome.. cause i can hold 20mm straight shanks.. but if it
breaks i will cry..

Thats a W20 collet I believe.

This style collet started with Waltham Machine works in about 1899. Here's a copy of the 1909 catalog...including both styles of collet

hehe it was kinda funny i whipped up a tool holder and made the tool in under 30min and started cutting steel with it, and it worked right away.. i guess i learned something with the small BF20 mill. =)

W20 collets. Aciera and Schaublin uses these collets in "original" configuration.

Outside diameter of shell is 20 mm, up to 16 mm passes trough, but over 16 mm must be accomdated on conical area. These collets are available, but not that popular. I have seen specs even over 20mm, but the gripping area gets progressively smaller.

Confirmed already twice, but these are W20 collets and they are mighty tricky to get hold of. I managed to get a set for my horizontal mill but you`ll have to look hard to find a set.

So... well instead of making a new thread about my milling machine i just well revive this one.. =)
To Rob Wilsons great envy and my great enjoyment.. I got my dirty hands on one of the slotting heads for the Aciera F3. This is a sought after item for this machine and isnt that common on the market.. After first discussing with Rob about making one of these i realized that i would have some problems i started to looking around.. It took me a couple of months but one came on the market and after a bit of haggling i got it for around 460 euro.. note these accessories go for between 400 and 1200 euro, the condition wasnt the best but it was worth it in my mind. =)

So mounted on the machine slotting head. Vertical head with ER32 collet holder, horizontal support and cover plate.. Aciera F3 anno 1968. =)
The table on this machine is the type that tilts in two directions, also not that common off the shelf.

The wishlist isnt over yet though.. Now i will start the procurement of the Precision drill, highspeed milling head, spiral cutting feed, quadrant positioner and some other gems..
Hope somebody enjoyed this anyway.. and not only me. =)

You know, sometimes you gotta accept that others have the lucky break, and congratulate them.... I sure like to have an Aciera with all the options, but it's nowhere in my future if ATG and Svenska Spel doesn't pay my way.
