Hi there Eugene
No problem , ask away

How do you get the tapered shape on the two main parts. Are you sawing off the shape as close as possible and then filing or grinding to get it to look good or is this done on a rotary table.
I used a R/T for the job ,,,, it can be done by hand just the same

.Are you using two cheap bearings Would a thrust bearing also not maybe work better here as well.
Yes i just used a couple of cheap bearing that i had at hand ,,,,, thrusts would be a much better job , now i no it works i will make a better job of it

How much strain does it put in a lathe to do a broach.
Not allot in brass and ally ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the larger the broach the more grunt required ,, i dig out info on that .
Could this also be used on a milling machine to broach as well.
Possibly never thought about it

Have you made any broaches for yourself or are you buying broaches.
Yes i made the broach myself ,,, i used Silver steel / drill rod , water hardening ,, worked fine on brass ,, broke on stainless

This would be useful for making the odd tap handle that is obsolete in plumbing so it will only be used for brass.
Just the job

would like to try and make my own broaches but I think it may be beyond a home shop ability. Square I can probably handle but I tried to make a 8 mm spline broach with 20 splines and was not successful. Would you have a suggestion as to how a spline broach could be made.
Still thinking on that one
