I'm not sure what the collets are.

I cant believe it has taken me this long to get my lathe home. Here it is in my shed.

DSCN0298 by Anzaniste, on Flickr

Fiddling around with it before I got it wired in I manage to wind a square headed crew down too far! :palm:

DSCN0292 by Anzaniste, on Flickr

The square just went in flush with the top of the saddle. :(

DSCN0297 by Anzaniste, on Flickr

I manage to pull it up again but could not engage the screw with what ever it engaged with before I carelessly lost it!!

I dont know what the screw did anyway!  Please cane some one enlighten me?

The machine does not have a plate giving serial numbers but the number is stamped on the cross slide.

DSCN0299 by Anzaniste, on Flickr

The machine is wired with three phases and a neutral which rather fooled my inverter but eventually we got it working by wiring the neutral from the machine to the neutral on the incoming single phase supply.
Now I have got a problem with arcing on the switch gear so I guess I will have to dismantle them and clean the contacts.

I also need to get a chuck backplate which is DIN 800 M45.

The machine, apart from its little niggles, looks and feels every bit as good as my expectations have been before I took delivery.

I have got a fair number of collets which strangely are not marked with a size however thats not the end of the world.

I do hope some one can tell me what I have done with the square headed screw and that I wont have to strip the apron down to get it back to where it should be!!
i got a manual from Tony Griffiths but it is for the fancyer version and it does nt show what the blessed screw is for!!

When you consider it is a 5 inch swing and weighs 1760lbs it's a sturdy little devil.

I have a similar screw on my lathe carriage that operates the carriage lock. There is however, a collar at the base of the square to prevent the screw disappearing through the hole. Don`t know whether this of any relevance to your screw!
Cheers.

Hello.
Maybe this gives you a little overview
 http://www.lathes.co.uk/leinen/index.html
I would think, you should ask for help in a German community,f.e.:
http://www.cncecke.de/forum/
There are probably more Leinen owners than in the US or UK.

Okay.

On the opening side on top, you'll see the word "registrieren";it's in the middle.

Enter there, that will lead you to some terms and conditions.
Scroll down and enter by choosing:
Ich bin mit diesen Bedingungen einverstanden(I agree)

That will lead you to the registration:

First line=Username
That has to be your real name
No nick names allowed.

Next is your email address
Forth and fifth:choose a password and confirm
Six:choose a language
Seven:Time zone
Eight:country
Nine: postal code
Ten:home town
Eleven:street and number
Twelve:conventional telephone network number

Forget the rest

Put in the confirmation code at the bottom and you're done.

Hopefully, I didn't invert anything.

Cheers,Ralph

If you do a Google search for the German name of the site, and pick "translate into English" when the search brings up the title, you can see the site in English.

Screenshots below:

Edit:
It is a "members-only" site, ie: if you are not a member, then you cannot see anything on the site.
Bah-humbug to that.
The "country" option lists Austria, Swiss and Germany only.
Not really set up for worldwide viewing.
Closed sites = closed minds (in my humble opinion)

Ralph, Thanks for that. I'll have a go later on when I've got a little more time and let you know how I go on. I'm intrigued, do you have this site translated into your language as Steamnut suggests?

Steamnut thanks for that info too. In their favour they might just be less squinternet savvy than you, you know just like me. However with a little help from my friends I'm one step further forward. That's what is great about Madmodders.

No,I didn't.I'm German.Why should I?

I'm not a big fan of translations programs anyway.
Let's try something:
Go to Google and let it translate an English text to German and then to French.
At last, let it translate back to English.
The text will then be meaningless, but very funny to read.

I'm very impressed. My schoolboy French would not be good enough for me to explore a French website. .

I'm in awe of the new lathe, I've never had one that did 3130 rpm before!!!!!. It will only do that using collets, if I try it with a 3 jaw chuck it blows 13 amp fuse in the mains input plug!! Is it the windage on the chuck that causes the big current demand?

More likely the large moment of inertia of the chuck combined with the high gearing - will take a good while to 'spin up' so start up surge to motor lasts much longer than normal.  Windage should only be an issue as the chuck reaches higher speed.

Ralph,
I eventually got round to trying to register and as Steamnut said it only allows three countries for registration. That's really odd because it showed me an English language registration page. The registration form also can't cope with UK postcodes!!

Heyho I did try.

I also joined? that steam website too, Everything went ok and said I'd need to be oked by the forum owner. That was about 5 days ago and no word yet. The site also won't accept a Canadian postal code either, So I just plugged in a random series of numbers. Anybody have any luck joining this forum recently?

Hello.
Anzaniste, are you talking about the Dampfforum or the CNC Ecke?
I can ask Peter, the administrator of the Dampfforum what the problem is.
I will tell you later or maybe tomorrow if there is any problem.

 Okay,I talked to Peter.
He told me that You have to use Your real name and a working email address.
I told You that.
Attempts to become a member using a nickname will be automatically rejected by the forum's software.
Instead of Your real postal code,You should write four times zero.
That should work.

Hope that helps.

Ralph,
Thank you very much for your time on this. I did use my real name but I'll go back and try that postal code tip.

Edited to add, Great news Ralph. Your tips did the trick. Wow, I'm more than impressed with what I've seen so far.
