, This is almost the first engine for me first from castings anyway, i spend time reading and studying

before i move on to the next part, only built a twin oscillating marine engines and a few marine boilers awhile ago,

Great Job Ray.

Just out of interest, what speed are you turning cast iron at? Usually people do it really slowly, by the look of your photos it's spinning fast - is that because the lathe hasn't got the torque for low speed? Anyway, whatever you're doing you're getting great results.

That's probably about right actually, maybe a bit slower for the flywheel though. You're doing great, better than I could.

Hi Ray, things are looking good

I hope you take the time to fully enjoy turning cast iron, it is nice to turn, and make such nice and smooth cylinders so easy to hone and prep for pistons. Looks like you're doing a bang up job at getting this engine through to completion. I'm looking forward to seeing it steaming.

Looks smashing Ray.

Just as a warning in advance for when machining the piston rod, which I guess you`ll be coming up to shortly - if your following the Pengwern books and metric plans, just be careful of the mistake:

The length of 1 13/32 is more like 35mm not the 45mm it quotes. I thought I was going mad and had done something wrong until I spotted the same concerns on another 10V build log. I`m sure it has caused a few issues over the years!

Looking good there!! I have been watching this build with interest (along with Chris's) if it wasnt for the price of castings I would love to have a go at building one, but there are too many other projects that are cheaper on my "to-do" list

But you are making it look very easy, I look forward to seeing the video of it working.

Great work there scrap man, it's looking brilliant. Useful for anybody considering building one. Tim you're right, the castings are so expensive these days best part of 100 squid for a 10v or 10h inc delivery

Buy two sets, make them both and then sell one. Should earn enough to pay for both sets plus paint etc.
Making two is only about 30% more effort than making one...

I like sterling engines i havent built one yet but i am going to have a go at one after i finish the 10v,
The little sherline has coped with the 10v build but i need a bigger lathe,
