OK Chaps this is not going to be pretty so any one of a nervous nature look away.
When I did the key way slot in the pulley for my sub spindle I could tell I wasn't doing my machine any good I was putting a lot of load on, and as I've decided to remake the pulley, I'm not too happy with the fit, I realy need another way of cutting the Key Way. As I'm also suffering from project creep like Bernd, this is going to be a no frills job it'll look ugly but all I want, is for it to do the Job
.
OK gather the material together and put a rough plan together
Bits of garage door Thanks Ralph
(where is Ralph
) and 20mm and 30 mm bar and a off cut from a shaper job some one was doing that I piced up at the scrappy.
First job drill some holes in the channel for M8 cap screws, this is going to be the base.
Those garage door bits make great clamps Ralph got any more
Bolt the bit thats to be the ram guide to the base with M8 cap screws. sorry no pics of drilling the guide.
Drill and tap M8 a chunk of 30mm bar for the pivot.
The ram guide needs to drilled on centre: easyest way set it up square on the the saddle, bolt it up, and get it positioned and lock up the cross slide.
Centre drill it
Then drill it with 8mm pilot then 13mm pilot and finish of with a 20mm drill
The channel was springing back so rigged up a jack to stop it. I may add some corner bracing.
Putting the 20mm drill through. I stopped the lathe and removed the swarf using a pair of pliers, it was as sharp as a razor, handling swarf is the only job I wear gloves for.
Hole drilled.
Should get it finished tomorrow thats if the boss leaves me alone, herd her mumbling about going to the Traford Centre (Moll)
Have fun
