First of all, thanks for the kind words. Concerning the legends in their own minds: I don’t consider them as such, I regard them as merely indifferent to some of the things that interest me. Differences in taste, I suppose. Perhaps this forum views things differently, I see evidence of such. I certainly haven’t attained folk hero status, and don’t expect to. Indeed, there is a danger in such things involving expanding egos and resting on past laurels. During my career I have had to endure the opinions and direction of enough so-called “experts” that I take active exception to being labeled as one. I only consider myself to be a mediocre machinist, so I try to design my projects for the average person.
As a writer for Digital Machinist, I reserve most of my ideas for articles for the magazine, and only bring them to the forum after they show up in print. This is not to say that I won't offer suggestions or encouragement.
Although I enjoy praise, I also appreciate constructive criticism. Indeed, I am very interested in reactions to my article subject matter and suggestions as to what readers would like to see in my columns. Feel free to blast away. When an idea comes from someone else, I acknowledge the source in the article.
