What the heck is going on with Google and Youtube.

I got a real spook earlier when Google+ recommended some friends to add to my whatever. I got spooked by first person on the list being a fella i've been talking to on a (non Google related) instant messaging program for quite a while. I'm still trying to figure out how Google knew about my association with him.

It's a bit of a Faustian pact. They normally give you some settings to limit what is shared and interactions with others but finding them in the settings page can be a real struggle. And they always seem to be turned on by default. Facebook are even worse in this respect but they are easier to avoid.

I have a fairly large instructional machining channel and the comments are so screwed up that I can't even figure out how to reply to new ones. Up until recently you could delete your G+ account, but that option seems to have disappeared.

I just opened my own website to try and distance myself a bit from the whole mess (Tom's Techniques). By embedding my videos on my own site, they are much easier to manage and present in a meaningful way.

Rant, content is my opinion directly of GOOGLE's subversive activities, why they do what they do, how they do.

Google/youtube  is the devil, they record every search, every video, they know more about your personality "type" than any psychiatrist in the world by what you are doing, what you are interested in, what you look at. (hey, they saw you looking at porn, can't deny it)

I still love youtube, on my blueray player on my television I watch the videos in big LCD screen on the couch. Some of my crazy ideas come from youtube ideas.

So when the Google goggles are walking around, is there really a barge offshore USA recording all the video that they see??
Ohh my, where did I put that tin foil hat today>>>??????

HEY, it ain't a secret I am nuts, I grew up abused, went through racial riots in the 60's, went through two bike clubs in the 70s, lived with lying strippers, lying ex wives, ran with lunatics for a while, climbed power poles, worked in plants on live wires.. so.. what do you think they will do with me? (all that info)? insane asylum or adult day care ???? I ain't like most the ones that sit and watch the mindless sit-coms.. I could care less about that drivel. I deal with all the emotional baggage I have accumulated, people who can't deal with theirs I ask to stay away. Some have permanent restraining orders.

I don't do facebook, hooking up with the loonies I try to distance myself from is not a pleasant thought? the vain, lying OLD strippers with sagging breasts, old fat dying pot belly people who stood next to me in a bar when the Indian was out loose on alcohol? No need to find them, I can go take a few biscuits under any bridge and re associate all I want to, then leave and come home to a "more sane lifestyle" of a workshop, a nutty pitt bulldog and a loving naive wife who doesn't know, or want to know about my past.

I gotta get my shoes on and go do some charity to repair the ugly deeds I did earlier in my life now..
Be happy, ride the "happy wave" all you can and enjoy what you have positive in life.

I saw your Steven's rifle project on Metalworking Fun and was well impressed, but had no idea you made videos. Definitely subscribing.

Youtube does make alot more sense if you try see it as a social networking site though, rather than a pure video host. A guy subscribed to my channel recently and that led to about 30 people almost immediately following, which surprised me. Plus Youtube has been pushing for more of a channel oriented style for a long time, with regular content providers. Rather than one-off videos of people slipping on ice or teasing their pets.
vtsteam:
Steve, If you want to use Google as a search engine because you like the search results, but don't want to further contribute to a dossier on yourself just because you happened once 3 years ago to read a particular news story, about a subversive group, or a friend did, who you've been writing to (in what you thought was a private conversation), or that friend had a friend, who had a friend, who looked up something which might be construed as suspicious, especially since Google has photographed that guy's house via their surface mapping and monitoring video cars, and also recorded wireless traffic in the area, including passwords, and which according to their database is located next to another house that related to another.....etc, etc.

Anyway, if you don't want to be part of that whole mess, but do want to just search for something and get Google's results, just do it through Startpage.com.

It does the Google's search for you and gives you the results. Then Google just profiles Startpage, instead of you. Simple.

And like I said if you want to post videos, Vimeo works fine. It wants to be a social network, too. But hasn't the clout, or innumerable secret connections of Google/Youtube, and you really don't have to participate in the social side of it if you don't want.

If you want to watch videos, YouTube is actually no problem -- you don't have to log in, and you can always delete Youtube and Google cookies -- it's posting videos on Youtube or commenting on them that's the problem.

Well if it is a problem. Many don't see it that way, and again, that's fine, no problem. At least we all have a choice.

So far.
