MT2 drill chuck

I was using my Russian lathe the other day so it won't lock up
and I needed to drill a 7mm hole through the piece in the jaws and oops the supplied chuck just handles 1/4" (6.5mm) at most  While trying to sort that out I was doing a bit of recycling and the old battery drill has a nice chuck to 3/8" mmmmm. Well I set to got it off the shaft at last (drilled out the stub), made a MT2 and press fit nose and bingo now have a bigger chuck and a rare win. :whoohoo: Pic shows the original supplied chuck and the new one compliments of the old battery drill

Nicely done Pete! I did just the opposite for one of my first projects on the lathe, had 3/8" chuck, wanted 1/4" chuck. The chuck was my Dad's and I turned and threaded the MT2 taper for it.

Thanks fellas for the kind comments. It was a bit of a journey but happy with the recycling effort
Next job is make a MT3 and buy a keyless chuck to use in the tailstock of my main lathe. I have similar chuck but on a 2MT but don't know how to remove the MT2 as its a little different from my other chucks

I love a bit of successful adaptation.
Well done Pete!

A small adaption was made yesterday due to a slight oversight by me. (nothing unusual there) I went to use it in my Sparey dividing head to hold a small item in the mill and the rotation of the tool pulled it forwards a little. It now has a drawbar and all is good with the world again. I just love the simple fixes
