Spanner-less QCTP for small lathe
« on: August 16, 2013, 02:56:05 PM »
I can hear the cries now "not another QCTP!"

This one is a spanner-less version of the Norman Patent design (with a nod to mikesworkshop)

It should be self explanatory. The thing works by expanding a ring into the hole in the tool holder (as per the mikesworkshop design), the variation is the slot in the back to allow it to go over the tool post lever.

I don't think there _can_ be enough QCTP threads, can there? They are marvellous devices.... I really must finish mine off one day...
Cheers!

Always interesting to see new ideas - and if it's QCTPs then it's QCTPs  :ddb:

I'm sure that that design is fine for a small lathe, but I don't think that it would scale up to a larger one with much larger cutting forces as the cunning slot will tend to open up as the expanding collar grips it.

It must be possible to make the vertical part of the locking shaft longer so that an unslotted holder will lift up clear of the central spigot, then tilt to allow the handle to pass through it.
