Digital Micrometer

I purchased a Mitutoyo digital 293-766-10 second hand but got no user info with it. It might sound dumb but can you turn the thing off to preserve the battery ? Hopefully someone might know. It's got 4 buttons to control it, zero/abs, origin, in/mm, hold. Help with abs, origin and turning off would be good as I've got no idea.

No wonder I couldn't turn it off it does it automatically, still I found out that the letter 'B' means, the batteries nearly flat. Oh we'll I've learnt something new.

The thing is, they don't actually switch of, they hold the last zeroing in memory, this means that there is a constant minute drain on the battery. I pull the battery on all of my digital scales when not in use.

Most of those digital micrometers and  callipers stay on even if switched off,. The off position usually only dims the display which uses no power anyway (really really tiny ) - it just makes the user feel happy about leaving the tool :-)

Mitutoyo micrometers are exceptionally low power and the battery will almost least as long in the tool as on the shelf!

Same for me.  Although mine is an older one.  It's possible they've improved things.  The batteries in my Mitutoyo Digimatic calipers seem to last forever.
