I'm glad you guys find some interest in this, thanks for tagging along.

I figured out the thread size of the upper C's, its 1 1/8-12. I might try slotting a bolt and thread it up from the bottom to try and clean up them top threads. If that doesn't work, I guess I will have to try and find a used tap on fleebay.

The first of the 3 new toys showed up today.




I got my old tig ready for the trade in tomorrow.


I'm keeping my old cart that was homemade. I'm going to convert it to hold 2 tanks, the new mig, and the new plasma and new tig thats coming tomorrow.

Simple case hardening suggestion:

Heat the part to cherry red with an oxy-acetelene torch and hold it there for a minute. Then turn off the oxygen and coat the part with acetelene soot. Turn the oxygen back on and reheat the part to cherry red and hold for a minute, then turn off the oxygen and coat the part again. Repeat the process three times and quench quickly after the last heating. A rapid quench is critical so use a large container of cold water and swish the part around to avoid local heating of the water.

How to make a quick tap:

No guarantees, also there are better ways to do it: drill rod, turn threads on lathe, harden and temper, grind futes properly, etc. But drill rod alone for 1.25 dia is 40 bucks w/out shipping. The above might be worth a try.

Worked on remodeling the old weld cart tonight, to fit 3 machines and 2 tanks.











Thats it for today. Tomorrow I will make a extension cord with 3 outlet plug-in bank, on board air line, cord holders, and tig filler rod holders.

Now I have one cord to anywhere in the garage and use any of the 3 machines with just a flip of a switch.





All self contained now.

Not yet.  I checked the inserts with a nut and they are 1 1/8-12 for sure.

Need some details on the new TIG and plasma.  Those are 2 things I'm desperately in need of.  Looking forward to seeing the Jeep come together.  My father in law has a 99 with 160k but in great shape.  I'm plotting to talk him into an LS swap when the 6 finally kicks it.  I love driving it but it really needs another 200hp
