Charles, HI.
We just love contraptions. The further off-the-wall the better.
And lots of pictures of devices and gadgets.

Cheers Mick.

Is this THE Charles Lessig, famous for the eureka relief tool video on youtube?? If so, you should be promoted to executive member for that video alone...I spent hours watching that to figure out how it worked!! Warm welcome to the forum!
It'll look well if you are a different Charles after all!!

hi and welcome
Charles Lessig:
Thank you all for your hospitality. I must now look at all the posts and pictures here to get to
know this place.
I live in Maryland near Washington DC in the US. We have a metalworking group called the
Chesapeake Area Metalworking Society or just CAMS which meets in Maryland and Virginia in
alternate months. Some of our members might be here already. We have people who work
on all sorts of things so there is always something new to learn.
I showed my hob reliever, yes I'm the one, but it was hard to visualize without the lathe so
that's why the video was made. That was built because I couldn't understand how it worked
and then extended twice for hob making. The first time needed the tool reset for each pass.
My friend came up with a great way to machine the edges of disks using perforated foam drawer
liner. I had been using rubber but the perforated foam worked better.
It is very cheap and easy to find. When you put it between your rough disk and the face plate or
smaller driving plate for smaller disks it really gets a powerful grip when you press it all together
with ball bearing center. It is plenty strong for half inch steel. It's also good for routing wood and
opening jars.
The transmission was another project built because I couldn't understand how it worked.
More later, Charles Motto: "Well, that didn't work"
