Funny bearing size

Evening all,

I've got here a water pump from a compair reavel air compressor, seized up solid.

Can't read any numbers off the bearing but it's a single row ball bearing, was a 2RS one.

It appears to be 1 3/8ths" ID (1.375"), but a very odd OD, 2.825" or 71.75mm.

Any ideas? I can't find a bearing anything like and I think the nearest fraction equivalent is 2 53/64" which does not seem likely!

Bearings with metric OD and an imperial ID? Can you get them?

As it stands I'll make a sleeve inside the pulley or bore it out, not sure yet.

35mm (1.377")ID x 72OD is quite common, what are you measuring with?

A blunt spoon and a bit of string, obviously.

In that case ARC should have them plus they sell sharp spoons so get one at teh same time

Not that it has any relevance whatever to your subject, but they do exist. Or did.

Burman gearboxes had some ... GB, BA, and BAP types IIRC.

Quite why, I have no idea.

In my defence the pulley is pretty battered from some caveman tactics to remove the old bearing...

Now I just need a double lip seal, imperial, 112 062 31, 1 1/8 x 5/8 x 5/16...


I've had bearings from arc euro before and they didn't last, this is for a breathing air compressor and its in the middle of sodding nowhere so I'll get a KOYO or equivalent from the local place.

For ARC defence I have to say that they mark NACHI/Koyo on those bearings, rest of them I assume are chinese. They used to have better bearings if I recall correctly.

I think I have seen on some compressors (possibly auto/AC) with double row ball bearings, they are much wider than normal, but youwould have spotted that one out. They can be of funny dimensions, alhough most are standard like 4207 (35*72*23) I think there is similar ID/OD but 27 mm wide.

Hated guts one ball bearng from citroen power steering unit, all dimensions standard, but not all of them in one standard bearing size. And the seals were killer, had to buy whole seal set to get one faulty one replaced.

I'll try to buy quality bearings when ever posible. KOYO:s, SKF (alhough some start appearing fron china) and such are good. Nothing annoys more than bad bearing that breaks and eats journal or gears.

It may have had a code at one point back in the mists of time, as it was after a barbarian style removal any evidence was long gone!

I've seen mounted on a Brazilian machine a 6201 bearing with a 1/2" bore. Apparently they call it a 6201-8ZZ like the one in this ad. http://www.amazon.com/6201-8ZZ-Bearing-32x10-Shielded-Inch/dp/B002BBF8N0
I suppose there are other sizes as well.
