Thanks for posting, always nice to see the next generation learning to use tools ( it's in the DNA  :thumbup:)    Just a suggestion, you might let the 3 yr old try a hacksaw on wood the fine teeth will make it easier for him and he can get both hands on it.

It's not the best saw, but I have a solution in mind. I'll post a picture when it is done.

Using a cut-off disc in a die grinder, I cut a new blade from a fine tooth hand saw. I also changed the blade retention from a couple of wood screws to a pair of threaded posts.
