Advice sought here chaps...
I have a standard 10mm dril chuck mounted on an MT3 arbour..but the problem is the taper on the chuck and the mating taper on the arbour keeps coming apart.
John -- To ask the obvious one, what is the
Jacobs Taper in your 10mm drill chuck? Is it the same one as is on your arbour? (Yes, I
had to ask.)
Many of the "inexpensive" chucks are that way because they do not bother to make the mating tapers to the specification.
If you have tried the suggestions in Mikey's post, then it
is time for DaveH's suggestion (though I grew up calling it
prussian blue). If it
still does not hold in place, then the coefficient of friction between the two metals is
much lower than standard (something I have seen twice in my life). In that case, the trick is to smear a drop of vinegar on each face, allow to air dry for 24 hours, assemble as with a twisting motion, clamp (it used to be called "cramp" back in the 50's on your side of the pond), and allow to sit for at least a week. The
acid etch will allow the metal surfaces to
oxide bond (OK,
rust) together.
