Single cylinder engine
« on: March 19, 2012, 04:45:57 PM »
Hot on the heels of the questions I posted elsewhere, I decided to do a project build log..

So far details are:

Single cylinder design, bore 1 inch with a corresponding stroke...Compression ratio yet to be determined..

Piston- Aluminium with CI rings *2
Liner -Cast Iron
Cylinder -finned Aluminium
Head-Aluminium
Conrod-Aluminium...Getting boring now....
Crank- built up from BMS and Silver Steel
Crankcase- err well I think it might be a Steel but that could change......
Flywheel- CI around 3-4 inches
Ignition- Own design  CDI ( ambitious )

Lubrication- usually a coupleof pints of beer.....err I mean  oil

We'll see how things progress as 'Er indoors has buggered off to 'Er mothers wi' me camera... :coffee:
Suffice to say, when she gets back I'll take some snaps

Nope Rob,

Its just a bit of fun...If it works out I might build another to put in my boat...( River Queen  by Kingston Mouldings) if I can make it a bit more compact..

Bit of an update...

I'm on piston mkII, first was damaged when I tried machining it not properly secured on the mill...School boy mistake..

2nd, well not too happy with the milling on that one and the little end hole seems a bit off centre..(Must be my eyesight.. )
I made some piston rings but they broke!...

So progress is a bit slow... :coffee:

Think I'll go back to building my Idris steam loco project
