Rail Road Pump Trolley on tracks
« on: February 04, 2012, 10:56:05 PM »
This is a 1/32 scale Rail Road Pump Trolley I've been working on.  Now I'm training the Guinea Pigs to work it.     Ralph

Neat.

You must be into the model railroading hobby?

Me too. I work (play) in the HO, HOn3, On30 & O scales.

Another view of the platform and mechanism.  I'll try to post an action video soon as I can figure out how.   :loco:  Ralph

Ralph

I'm a bit confuse how are the axles attach to the frame? Would like to make one myself. Is the model made from a plan?Or was it made off the cuff kinda thing .

Thanks

Hi WD.  Thanks for your inrerest in the trolley.  Sorry, I don't have any plans for this model.  I just built it as I went along using simple tools.  The axle that you see in the picture is a hollow tube soldered onto the rails, and the wheel shaft rides in the tube which was notched to accomodete axle and drive gear. Same with the crank and the other set of wheels.  I'll try to draw up and post a sketch.  It was a fun and simple build.  Ralph

Blink and you missed it! That thing is fast!!!

Very nice looking model Ralph

I have just one thought. Not trying to learn all your secwets but.... How does the crank mechanism ratchet?

I'm just guessing it has to pump then freewheel?  Never really thought about it till I saw your model!

I have some small needle roller clutches that would work that way. But they're 1/2" far too large for such a machine.

Thanks.  It really isn't that fast -it's a product of the video host. Just play the "previous" frame then play "next" again and it slows down some.  I'll try to post a more worthy video.  Yes, it pumps half of the cycle then freewheels the other 180degrees.  A racheting mechanism would be ideal, interesting and challenging.  Ralph

Hey Ralph, it works on the same priciple as the "finger machine" Bog's built, except it (pump trolley - intersting name) has no flywheel.

Here's a video. It's hard work.  :D

Thanks Bernd.  Yes, it is the same principle as the "finger machine", but the wheels of the cart serve the purpose of the flywheel and allow it to scoot along as they turn.  Ralph
