My first time

Hi all well this is my first serious project.
It all started one cold and windy day I decide to get a vertical slide for my Boxford lathe so I rang Boxford.
£600 ++ Ouch. Picked myself of the floor. Had a think lots of Myford slides about. Rang RDG tools Ltd nice, helpful guy's.
Yes he would sell me one but?? , give the guy's at Home and Workshop Machinery a ring. Yes sir we have one but (there's always a but) and it's £180 and we don't have the universal base. :thumbup:That's OK I said I only want it to fit my Boxford
Without a base you have to fit it to the tool slide which makes it to high. So I rang them back and explained nice chaps Arr they said we'll have a look and give you a bell , I told him I would have a go and make one(This was before Christmas) which I did and finished it last night
. Then they rang this morning to tell me it was on it's way (NICE CHAPS).
So here's some pic's
Keeping fingers crossed this works Tony

Tony,
Very nice indeed.
It is times like this, when the original equipment is too expensive, that you should have a go yourself, and it looks like you saved yourself loadsa.

Cool....
Now what are you gonna make with it?
How did you get the slot in there without a vertical slide Tony? Have you got a mill? ... Have you told us? did I miss it?
Just curious like always!
Ralph.

Thank you all. Well the vert slide will mount on the tool slide but it is a bit height so I milled the top half of the slot turned the piece round and did the bottom. I decided against using a tee slot as the mount is not big enough for much side to side movement, so I put another anchor hole 5mm to one side and made the mount a bit larger thats why it covers the degree gauge. The reason being that with the vert slid mounted in place of the tool slid movement across the bed is small. I have had another idea which might be even better, get a piece of 25mm plate 130mm x 400mm have it ground flat and true have a tee slot to match vert slide machined along the length and mount on the cross slide, and bob's your uncle, you can move the vert slide the full length of the cross slide. thats a job for another day, next on the list of bit's is a rear tool post and you have guessed it a ball turning tool. All with a picture log.
