Improvising a tiny machinist’s jack.
« on: November 29, 2011, 09:27:30 AM »
I needed to hold a new component up to an existing one, to spot through for bolt holes in the new bit. I couldn't get a clamp on, but a tiny jack would do the job, if it was less than 0.75” high. The problem was easily solved with this:

It’s the threaded jaw from a small parallel clamp, with two M6 bolts in it. The only work involved was a facing cut to remove the raised lettering on the bolt heads. Very stable in use.

Not exactly an life-changing* idea, but I thought I’d pass it on in case anyone else needs it.

I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

Nicely done Andy - sometimes it's the simple things that are the least obvious...
