I've cut the end off it twice, but it's still too short

I know, I've got that issue of MEW.
I made mine ages before that appeared.

I just put mine on a forum for everyone to share.

sour grapes? maybe.

You need not be grumpy Roy, I was very pleased for you cheering me on when I displayed my version on the Model Engineers forum.

http://www.model-engineer.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=30005

It was your version where the "drill head" was turned upside-down compared to my version. Regardless of which, the resulting tool is very useful indeed and very well worth the few hours it took to make it.

I have the GHT gubbins but the 'Lidl' stand is rather more versatile becuse it can be turned into a horizontal plane -- and fitted on the lathe saddle- but with an electric drill to drill or mill.

For those with GHT's Workshop Techniques book, the Lidl stand can be used in a similar way  to the Jim Batchelor idea which  converted the drilling part of the Universal Pillar Tool onto- in this case , a Myford lathe.

A million years ago ( give or take a couple of days) I wrote about using a wood router as as tool post grinder using a 43mm collar which is pretty standard on such drill things.
