my thread has been pinched!!!
« on: November 10, 2011, 07:58:07 AM »
Hi
I just looked on photobucket to see my stats and noticed that the pic of my engine has been viewed on a site called "tech-domain.com".

so I looked on there and my complete build post, pics and all, has been put on there by some cheeky chump who looks like he's trying to make out he built it.

heres a link, its in chinese so you'll have to translate.http://tech-domain.com/thread-40018-1-1.html

bloody cheek!

a very annoyed Roy.
I used to be confused, now I just don't know.

That is to bad but, as it has been said before, If you put it on the web it is far game for thieves and other low life's.
not much that can be done either. I have had photo's stolen and used in a book with no credit. It was published in The EU and the publisher said that, with the published books it was all ready out of the bag. But showing them the original post and dated thread they assured me that if it went to another printing it would remove it ( which is unlikely).  :borg:  :borg:

Hmmm. Can you register on the site? It doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe let the owner know or post in the "builders" thread?

Unfortunately, PT is right. Not much can be done without a large financial cost.

Finally got the site to load. Looks like it is in Chinese.

I have had a few of my posts, pictures (even the rules of this site for awhile were on another site)  appear in other places as well. I know the feeling.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Still doesn't feel good to be flattered that way...

Its not the pictures so much, its how he used the entire thing to make out he made it, thats what really gets me.

Update on this.
I posted the build of this engine on 3 forums and I wasn't sure which one had been copied. I now know, because of a question I asked someone, and the idiot who copied it didn't delete it, the post was copied from HMEM, home model engine machinist.

Roy, just done a bit of searching and evn though he's hijacked your thread he's also linked to your photbucket pictures.

The first one on his site pulls this picture up.

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm72/wheeltapper_2008/4strokeengine.jpg

so edit that post and put this one up instead.

You will have to edit the pics on the other sites so that they get the right / new pictures.

I tagged all my pics but I could only change the first one he posted, he must have reprinted the others.

Nice one, Roy!  :)

Something odd about that site, though. When I went to admire your handiwork, the usual
"To display characters correctly you need to instal the following
language pack : Chinese  [Instal] [Cancel]"
window appeared. As I can't read Chinese, I went for cancel but couldn't get rid of the window, and I couldn't scroll down his site or indeed do anything else. In the end, I had to restart my computer. If that is happening to others, he won't get many customers. Good.

The only thing about joining that forum to post a reply is you give them your e-mail address to register so open yourself up to a whole load of spam if its all a bit dodgy.

Looks like you are not the only one, this looks like Stew Harts engine

Guys you may have this wrong (i could be also)? After translating a few of the threads on that site it looks like they are collecting information from various sites and country's of builds to be admired. i think the guys was in awe of what you did rather than trying to pass it off as his own?

That still doesn't give them the right to rehost MY pictures with their own watermark on them.

That is not rehosting! He has lifted it as his own!

Roy, even I don't think that Norfolk boys would have "Come on, let me kiss your mouth" as a signature line on an engineering forum! (Them Norwichers are a rum lot!)

To prevent Cinese plagiarists, maybe we should all include this link in our posts:
