As ever, some interesting techniques for me to learn from, as well as a lovely build

That is a really nice way of keeping the pressure from bending the crank using that spacer.

Just wondering, I noticed you drilled right through the two bearing supports in position. When I built my Stuart I was encouraged not to do this because they may deflect off centre as the drill went through. I guess because you were boring you could take a very light final cuts and run it in and out so that you knew you wouldn`t get this deflection - is that right?

"Several hours later".....   : )  That's a funny bit about the saw, Rob.
Things are looking great, and you're showing some solid machining practice.  Enjoying your thread here, mate!

Cheers lads  :D

what are u doing with the gear shaft rob?
are u using custom gear sizes?
Pete
Hi Pete ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Nothing as exciting ,, just fixing the shaft a slightly different way  :)

Hi Chris ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, you got it ,i took it easy drilling ,, leaving plenty of material to bore to final size  :dremel:

Well i just about finished the crank ,, still needs some de burring , a couple of key ways milled and cut to length  :dremel:

Milled off the excess material ,,, to lazy to use a hacksaw  ::)

Mounted between centres and ruff turned

Then finish turned to size

Cheers Rob

Beautiful crank mate

And it's good to see you giving the Myford a bit of a workout for a change  :D - I see the TTA is mounted conveniently as a magnetic base stand

Kind regards, Arnold

Very nice work on that crankshaft.  I've made a few and they are not easy.  Don't think any of mine turned out quite as nice as yours!

Hi Rob
That crank is so nice buddy, Im glad u left it a little long on the reg side because, I found an easy fix for the lockout lever's
interference issues was to make a wider bobbin.
That just moves everything out of the way
your kerzel is going to be a rare thing of beauty Rob

Hi Rob, that is truly a master's bit of work on that crank, and I am going to be following your demonstration of the proper way to set up to turn the shafts on my next crank.  I've got three pieces of 1 and 3/4 round stock each with three reamed holes in them, which have been getting progressively thinner as each time they go together with pins and shafts, they get further out of true. :hammer: :headbang:  It is time for them to be scrap, and a proper crank assembled, and you have shown the way.  I've seen many variations on the method, but your description of finding the exact diameter of the piece holding it in alignment is the best way I've ever seen and I will be using it in my next build.  This engine should be a real runner when you're finished.     Cheers, Jack

Hi Rob,

Thanks for everything you have shown here.

The pictures are so clear and instructive - truly a "master class" in techniques - much to learn from.

Very best wishes

Hi Lads , many thanks for the comments

The shop time has been a bit slow passed two weeks  :(  ,,,,,, but i have managed a bit this weekend  :ddb: :ddb: :ddb: not allot but still moving on .

Made the main bearings .

Slapped a bit 1mm stainless plate on the Denford  cnc mill and out popped a couple of name plates ,,,,,,, well i did have to make an engraving  cutter , draw it and then sort out the G code ,,,,,,,, and wait 58 minutes for it to go through 12503 lines of code   :coffee:

And cheers to MR Bluechip for the dam small 10 BA screws

Rob

May have a bash at the flywheels the morn  :dremel:

Quite right John, really attractive engine ..

Wonder how long before he notices you've nicked the piston and con-rod for yours ???

Name plate does look good BUT I've never seen a hit & miss with a name plate like that, usually transfers on the side of the hopper and a small plate elsewhere giving details like HP and serial mumber and also held with roundheads

I have some spare 12BA roundheads and some JB weld to fill the old holes if you want :D
