Question, when you put the weighted board on the top is the foam still expanding? Also is the fit snug or can you get your fingers round the tool to get it out of its pocket?

Yes, it is still expanding, or it would be without the board on it.

Real snug, if you want finger spaces you need to put something with the tool, maybe wrap the tool in cloth or something to increase its bulk a bit without loosing the basic shape.
