The larger cast ones were purchased as rough castings, then I did all the machining on them before returning to the suppliers for him to hob out the actual gear teeth, at 6DP they were too big for my machine really. The smaller ones were purchased as stock gears from HPC (boston would be similar) and then machined to the required profile, this worked out cheaper than buying the required involute cutters and again at 8 and 10DP still quite a big cut for an X3 to manage.

When I do machine gears I use the set-up thats shown at the start of this album

any idea what pressure angle 14.4 or 20 degrees gear cutter ?
