Part for air regulator |
(1/3) > >> |
John Rudd:
I need to make a part for the air reg on my compressor. The orig threaded part where the adjustment knob screws into has worn away..Thinking I could bush it, I turned up a brass bush to silver solder in...The casting melted!!! Anyway, I took some measurements: The thread is approx 31.6mm in dia and pitch is between 1.25 and 1.5...I'm not sure if its metric or not. I'd have a stab at an M32 thread with a fine pitch, 1.5 ( coz there aint an M32 in coarse..) but on checking the pitch I'd say its between 18-20 tpi and as for the angle...Well my metric thread gauges dont seem to fit too well...Thing is, the item was made in the Far East, so I'd have guessed it would have been metric.. Any ideas guys? |

John, it could well be 1/4" BSP which is 19tpi, and is in international use. I've never understood why it's called 1/4", when it's major diameter is 0.518". But I notice your diameter is 31 mm, or about an inch and a quarter.... Andy |

Can you not take the parts into your local air parts counter? Bry |
John Rudd:
Andy, The part in question is the bonnet of the regulator and is made from some sort of chinky alloy. It looks like it has a lot of 'silvery' looking metal in it, which I guess is why it melted so easy...Anyhoo..it screws into the main body of the regulator which is attached to the compressor air tank..Not easy to just change the reg as the air outlets are part of the whole thing and it also incorporates the relief valve.... I did order a part from a seller on Ebay, but turns out to be nothing of use...here it is ( well for the time being..) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300514050077 The top part is plastic, on removing it there are no innards!!. I was hoping ( some hope..) that it came as a drop in replacement.. |

I'm sure some of the chaps will know what you need John, the last compressor I bought was a second hand Atlas Copco scroll compressor lovely bit of kit cost me about 400quid, bought her from a dentist surgery and weighed about 120kilos. :( |
