X2 axis stops
« on: October 22, 2010, 01:15:05 PM »
on manual x2 how do people do stop blocks on the axis?  I was looking at an X1 a guy had and was wondering if it has been done on an x2.

Came across this file at the Yahoo group by accident today, and remembered this post here.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GrizHFMinimill/files/Paul%20in%20Pittsfield%27s%20Mill%20Mods/

Looks like it would work well, but I'm sitting by the fire now, and the mill is in a cold place, so I'm not going to go and physically check it out - sorry!!

EDIT:  Link changed to the folder where the file is located.  Dont know why I cant link directly to the PDF file.

No worries!

I've had my X2 for 4 or 5 years now and often thought how nice it would be to have some table stops available

So when I first saw your post I was hoping you had the easy solution!

Not sure how easy this would be to adapt to the Y axis, seems like the best place to put the stops is the same place you want to mount scales for a DRO.

i now call this my modular mill kit.

it was a full length of 6061 alum 1/2" square solid stock.  I then tapped 1/4-20 holes every 1".  then cut into manageable lengths.

I then made an x and y axis tram setup that houses nicely in a joyo de nicarauga cigar box.  The y axis is put together in the spindle.  the only difference is the x axis has a longer bar.  I then made an x and y axis solid stop kit with some of the material.  I simply tapped 1/4-20 holes in the table and the base and mounted the stock and made some stop blocks that are moveable.

i am now working on mounting an indicator on the z axis stop block to help fine tune the axis.  I have stops for the x and y that allow me to mount an indicator on them also to fine tune those movements.  All for the cost of free dollars and free cents as it was all material i had in my garage.  I have about 7 more feet to do with also.  I am working on a poly fixture plate for drilling and an aluminum bed plate with the same bolt hole size for my t-nut kit for easy fixturing.
