I was facing up a length of 40mm bore pipe, when I remembered..... Two new lathe owners, had mentioned having "moments" when working copper pipe.

Here`s how I do it......
Two neatly fitting bungs. (The yellow stuff`s plastic. Hard wood would be ok).
Plain bung for chuck end, to stop crushing. Tailstock end with convenient sized hole.

Paper inside to keep em apart.

Convenient sized rod in convenient sized hole. Machine as you like!

Works for me!
