Tooling Storage
« on: June 24, 2010, 04:51:21 PM »
Hi Lads

A bit warm here at the moment and i could not be be bothered to over heat my one brain cell by thinking , so i thought i would improve the shop a bit and make up some racks/holders for tooling , so things are more to hand , The racks are made from what i had at had lying round the shop ,,,,,,,so thats why things are the size they are ,,,,,, less thinking  ::)
Mostly 3mm plate and 40x40 box .

small stand for the heavier mill stuff ,save's having to bend down and rummage about in a cabinet

A holder for milling tooling , made from a length of "L" section and a bit flat bar welded together

A drill rack for my metric 3MT and 2MT drills and stuff , made from a few lenghts of box and 3mm plate ,,with lots of holes poked in it ,,,,much the same as my IMP MT drill rack

And a rack for my Myford lathe quick change tooling ,,,,,3mm plate with lugs at 45 deg,,,,,,,,,,, need to make another one for me larger quick change tool holder

Anyone got any other tooling storage ideas ?

Cheers Rob

Mine is never tidy and consequently I spend more time looking for a tool than I do using it!!!!

I fully support that nice Mr. Stevenson..

Shame on you Rob Wilson ..

Just look at all the precious world resources you have used to store a few bits and pieces.   :(

A Gravity Powered Inventory Allocation and Retrieval System as used by Mr. S, Dave SD, and, indeed myself, costs nothing to build and run.

Repent, I say. Repent before it is too late ...

That qctp toolholder storage is brilliant.
I might try to copy it one day, if I can come up with a as quick and simple method to match my Multifix...

Ah, the requisite half-hour search before starting work.  I used to work for a company located in a 25,000 sq ft building.  It could take me half a day to find the drill index when I needed to drill a clearance hole.  Such experiences change you...

Don't worry John, no-one would ever know, what with all the junk stock you throw down there too.

Rob - nice work, I echo Chris's sentiment, I wish I could weld.... Supposed I'd better learn, eh? The trouble is, having a welding/fabrication shop right next door makes one a bit lazy in that regard...
Cheers!

I am looking for some magnetic wall covering to make a vertical virtual floor.

well (O/T) I have seen, at a fairground once, something similar for children - it appeared to be wall covered in one type of velcro & the kids were clad in the other half of velcro and they jumped up and see how far up the wall they could get - but I did see one parent reaching up and hanging one of his kids on the wall and then apparently walking away .....

We've established there are those of us who minimise entropy by adopting the gravity-driven approach, and those who apparently try to defy gravity and store their items with an increasing potential-energy gradient - but Gravity always wins - just leave it long enough !

and ...... is it in fact a "Capricorn One" scenario - bricks can be laid flat on the floor as well as stacked to make a wall???  and I do seem to recall someone telling us about painting with floor paint ....   ::)

Always fancied going up to watch him whilst he's working and keep nudging his elbow.

You can't take anything away from how he does things and the quality, need a change of plan now and start taking the piss out of his spelling.
