First inane question
« on: May 21, 2010, 07:41:54 PM »
I'm sure this has been covered somewhere else, but I'll ask anyway.

My wife bought me a Unimat Lathe for my anniversary a couple of years ago. She also managed to buy some cutting tools (way to go!).
I think the set of indexable carbide insert holders probably came from Chronos or RDG, but I'm having a hell of a job identifying what replacement inserts I need. Being over enthusiastic and inexperienced I've managed to chip a couple.
I understand the way the coding works, but the holders are marked up in a way that I don't understand at all. I don't want to order inserts only to find they won't fit!

As an example, the right hand cutting general roughing tool insert holder is marked:

SCLCR0610D06

I know that the insert for this is a CCMT (from my own deductions), BUT HOW ON EARTH DO I FIND THE CORRECT SIZE??!

I'm sort of pulling my hair out at my own stupid ignorance.

That exact number is listed here:
http://zytools.powertoolsblogs.com/

It shows the insert as CCMT06

Perfect thanks, that's the entire set. Seems that the '06' is the size so thanks again to both of you.
