Peatol/Taig lathe mods
« on: May 06, 2010, 04:30:08 PM »
Hi,

Having had my Taig lathe for some time, I am now fed up completely with the cap head screws used to lock various items on the lathe, so, I want to make some decent lock handles.

Thing is, I cant identify the threads, can anyone help please?

Thanks

Ian
If it works, take it apart and find out why!

Hey Ian
What parts are you looking to change hold downs?

I only have the Taig vertical slide being used on another machine and I believe the threads are #10x32 T.P.I., using a 5/32" hex wrench.

I have used the thread gauges that come with my tap and die sets to make sure.If it is on a taig it will not be metric for sure. 8/32 and 10/32 for most things.The compound slide I had issues with,had to use a set of wrenches that I used for my archery equipment.Right to this day I have no Idea what Allen size it is cause I have 500 wrenches and that is the only one that fits.

Link to the Taig site. The parts drawing shows the individual part numbers and gives the thread size.

I think all the socket head cap screws on the Taig lathe are 10-32.  Same for the thumb screw on the back of the carriage and the depth stop.

What size is the wrench that fits the hold down for the compound slide?

Hiya Johnny;
That one is 7/64, and a ball head driver is really handy to reach it.
