Modifying Flashlights ...
ieezitin:
Sir.
Well paying $500 for a flash light is a tad out of reach, :jaw: but I guess you get what you pay for.
Anthony.

Understood - $500 is a very high price for a single flashlight, but at the CPF's there are folks who own "many" of those Titanium lights :bugeye:
I can send you to one of our Asian suppliers like this one, but you get what you pay for:

So for something that is of higher quality, but still entry-level and affordable ($60), that is small (fits in your jeans) and has good output relatively to the battery source (using a standard AA cell), I would say to look at these:

or

For something that is perhaps better suited for closer range (light output/beam is a flood) which would work great as a headlamp as well, this is my current light (EDC - every day carry), and it is available with a plain cool white LED, or my favorite the Warm white tint LED (which is the model I own):

I can of course recommend lights with even greater output and runtimes, but they necessarily have to get bigger since you need a larger and heavier host since you then need a larger (higher energy density) cell and/or multiple batteries.
Let me know if this helps, or if you need additional/other suggestions.

Sir.
The Quark AA seams to be quite near what I am looking for out of all the choices, I have no problem spending $60 on a flash light if I get years of use with quality of design and materials.
I am on this ( I don’t buy Chinese kick ) for many reasons but the main one is quality,
Another question, I design and build tooling and one design I have is a laser plumb bob, its just a regular plumb bob but instead of it having a metal tip it would emit a laser light do you know where I could purchase a laser in small diameter and its length preferably of USA or European manufacture?
I thank you for the information. Anthony.

Hi Will
Welcome to the collective :borg:
You may have written an intro elsewhere but I haven't looked for it so here I shall stay and say Hi!
Nice write up!! :bugeye:
You certainly like the old torches! I like to play but don't think I'd ever get that involved  Each to their own
Very interesting read though.... Like the clarity of your photo's too.
I've just been making some videos of my brass torches tonight.... For an entry level lathe project kind of thing... Loads of editing left to do and waiting on some promised drawings before it can go proper public though.
I have a thing for lights.... Like many "boys" I suppose? Just haven't taken it to your level..... I think the key rings I make are my top level :)
I'll check out the forum when I have a little more time

Nice write up and tactfuly done.
Got a 6D Maglight some where, is it really worth upgrading to led around £40 to 45, the light only cost £22 some years back. Seen reviews and not that impressed on these particular led upgrades.
Site mentioned above has a fetish with certain IP addresses belonging to O2/BE else would have joined months ago.
Just waiting on TK30 18650's and charger to arrive since 26 Nov.
