Hello from Sunny Kirkcaldy
« on: December 06, 2009, 06:36:41 PM »
Hi there all.

All new to this lathe stuff and hope to get to grips with it all soon (with this sites help of course!).
I haven't used a lathe since I was at school (a very long time ago, lol).
Just bought an "ex-demo" DB8 from Chester.
I think it fell off a very high lorry (and then rolled down a big hill) - so much damage to fix  - the manual doesn't give much info either.
Anyone have a pic they can send me of the belt and leadscrew setup (under my mangled end case! lol) ?
.............. or does everyone slate these lathes ? lol
Oh God .............. have I bought a lemon ? :(

Cheers in advance
Neil

Neil,

Welcome to the madhouse. :mmr:

No slating on here, we don't do things like that, and you certainly haven't bought a lemon. Machines are very personal things, and I am sure that with a little help from the lads on here, you will end up with a machine to be proud of.

If someone has the info you want, then it will certainly turn up.

If it doesn't, I would suggest you go to the Grizzly site.

http://grizzly.com/home.aspx

Find the lathe or lathes closest to yours and download the user manuals for it. They are usually a lot better than the manuals that come with machines in this country.

Just enjoy yourself

welcome neil  :borg:

when i took delivery of my 9" south bend lathe (it was used) it was missing the cross slide, tail stock and a bunch of other little things.
with the help of guys in other groups, ebay and allot of fixing it is now a fairly good lathe. so as bog's said look around on the net and ask here, i'm sure you will get it up and going in no time.

oh................we need picture of the rebuild

Hi Neil

Welcome to MadModders. Not to worry about the lathe Neil, the chaps here all have big hammers and should be able to help you beat it back into shape. If that won't work there are another bunch that will help you get it back into shape using the TLC approach. Either way you end up a winner. Only requirement is that  :worthless:. Have fun, enjoy and make yourself at home. :ddb: :ddb:

Cheers

Nothin' wrong with lemons - as long as you have plenty of tequila on hand.

Welcome!
