Glen,

Quote
In a memo to Parliament Hill staff, a senior official at the House of Commons said the explosion's impact on employees working in the buildings would likely be minimal, as outdoor temperatures remain mild.

I am sure that really cheered up the dead man's family.

I'm curious as to what caused the explosion. From the brief article, it seems like an old steam plant.

This just demonstrates how dangerous boilers can be, my thoughts are with the poor dead man and the injured.

I found this picture in a book I was reading:- it shows the results of a boiler explosion on a steam plough traction engine, those old guys because they were paid by the acer had an habbit of screwing the safety valve down.

It is currently under investigation, lawyers don't you know so they will probably make an announcement in months.

A couple of Mythbusters episodes have featured household boilers left running with all the safety features disabled.

In one test the explosion destroyed a shed and launched the boiler "500 ft high".

In another, it went through 2 ceilings and a roof (recently shown on Discovery UK)!
