Radius knurling?
« on: October 22, 2009, 04:20:09 PM »
On the lathe im fixing is a lot of knobs with knurled heads but they are knurled on a radius not flat -so how do I

After a while of  I figured I already have the tool for it.

So I took a knob cut a small radius at the end and indented the top as the old ones would be leaving something that look like a pumpkin.

The mod of the toool looks like this.  Knurling wheel ( fine straight) on a mount with a brass pin to rotate on.

After setting the tool and some (lots) of WD40 applied some presure to the tool and after some gentle rotation it looked like this.

Thanks for the comments.

It is a wonderfull feeling when you do a small simple mod AND it works so well.

Back to the other current projects  :proj: ITS SO CONFUSING.

More thinking "Outside the box"    ..............  nice one Gerhard

I need to make a new ball turner to suit the Boxford, looks like I'll need to get my "Design Head" on first to incorporate all these great ideas  :smart:

It's the small nuggets of pure gold, like this one that keep me watching the forums. This one is a solution I'd been looking for for quite some time. Well done!! Now I hope you'll understand when I steal it and add it to my own arsenal of tools....LOL

Thanks and steal all you want.  It would repay some small part of all the ideas I have stolen over time.
