Very informative thread. Interesting how you used the shaper and lathe to make that.

Wish I could find a shaper over here. There about as hard to find as hen's teeth.

Bernd  I Googled metal shaper and hit on 10 to 15 shapers, one in your neck of the woods. They ranged from 7" to omg". Happy Hunting    Don't look for hens teeth, not much good in the shop/garage :wack:

Nice ball turner, the big question is, which came first the ball or the ball turner?!  (on your handle)

The turner Nick, the ball on the handle was it's first job  :dremel:

Great stuff. Looks a useful tool, I need to think about more fancy stuff to improve the look of my engines!

Good work on yours John. It's the first time I've seen the pictures tonight.

:proj: The list just grows and grows!

Just read the replies etc since I last posted....

Glad you liked the post John, Hope it'll help with tool alignment?

The round tip idea works well.... I have a post on ball & ogive turning in the general tools section that shows the round tip I made and the result (in brass)

Could easily put a link up..... But then that might stop you finding something else interesting on your travels?  :ddb:

I'll wait to see the results from your new tips John

My round cutter at work, sorry but it is not the most elegant tool post!

Finished product!

... as I hoped the round cutter makes it easy to blend the ball into the socket bit.
