Hi All
Interesting stuff, appeals to me for some reason.

There are loads of nutters making stuff like that. I've had quite an interest in such things for donkey's years.
I got the site about 2 months ago, 'cos a mate wanted to make something simple & harmless for his 5 yr old niece.
So I suggested a compound pendulum harmonograph, lots of them on the net. Have a shufti. He says 'what's that?' I trawled the net to find him a set of plans/sketch, and, as is usual, I went wandering about, and came across the 'chaotic' bit.
A lot of these 'toys' are quick and easy to make, cost pretty much nowt, and often amuse kids far longer than some 100 quid electronic gizmo.
In ancient times there was often a project something along those lines for kids Christmas presents in ME mag.
Probably because there was not a lot of spare cash in the '50's, could be we're back there ?
This is an exotic version of a C.P.H, took me a bit to find it. I
think it uses epicyclic gears, not too sure, but there are others, very simply made using pendulums. Look at the gallery.
