If you haven't been yet, you may want to check this site the "Center of the Steampunk Universe" http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php Most if not all that are listed are or have been one the forum.

Biggest problem is with the tweeny boppers and teenagers, that over run the site. Wanting to make steam smoking pipes with really steam. and not understanding the safety implication of REAL STEAM and not the condensation most people refer to as steam!
Molly, and Herr Docktor have posted some of their stuff on the forums. Great stuff, along with a lot of other very talented people!
I go back to look but rarely take part any more! To much tilting at wind mills about  safety like on here sometimes. But only every other post over there!  :bang:

and I'm working on the first two!

I share Glen's fascination/reservation about Steampunk and the Brass Goggles website.  There is a lot of creativity there that I enjoy, but there is also a lot that is merely surface decoration with only imaginery function - play acting.

Steampunk does however tend to embellish the legitimate creations with the Victorian elements of style and grace that are lacking in most of our modern day function-driven designs.

The trouble with Steampunk (and I completely agree about BrassGoggles) is that it all looks like bits of my workshop... my press is worked by a treadle, I wind the handle to make the cutter go round, I jump up and down on pedals to fire rivets and set press studs and even the hole punch table was cobbled together oops sorry - carefully engineered by Stew Hart out of spare bits and bobs and a lot of heavy steel plate. The only electricity that gets used is for lighting.

The latest additions are a massive foot operated riveting machine, a huge box of strip knives and a small flypress but I need to find someone to make me a  top platten with a 1" spigot  before I can use it! Stewwwwwwwww????

Before anyone says anything, I would gladly have posted some nice old steampunky machine pictures here but I simply can't find a way to do it... I was told that  :worthless: but not how to fix the situation... Help anyone?

Hi Ray

To post pics you have to open an account with photobucket, put the pics on there first then copy them over onto the forum.

Have to arrange a visit to sort out that platten. (Love to Val)

Cheers

Yup, it arrived a week or two ago, Stew. The idea is to fill the hopper with tubular rivets , give the sorting wheel a spin to fill the feed slot and then jump up and down on the foot pedal to set the rivets. There are more pics of it in my 'welding cast iron' thread in the 'How do I do that' section.

I believe it can be modified to take bifurcated rivets as well as the tubular ones... blowed if I can see how!

I do love the elegance of these old 'clunkers'. The oval base of the riveter is a very elegant thing serving such a practical purpose.
