Flies
« on: August 20, 2009, 06:27:28 PM »
Has anyone noticed the lack of flies this year?

Seriously, even the garden midges have dissapeared.....as well as butterflies, bees, wasps you name it there is hardly anything fly like about this year?
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)

Since you said it's been quite hot in your area I would suspect they moved further north were it's cooler. Now would that be Iceland?    :)

P.S. When I first saw the subject line my brain saw "files". Made wonder how you lost files.

Actually now that you mention it they should be here in swarms by now and I haven't been that bothered by them in where I am in MI.

Hope they get tired of flying and crash into the lakes before they get to New York.  :D

Be careful what you wish for Darren! :whip:

Now that you mention it, I don't think that there are as many around here as I recall in other years.

We used to complain about the little buggers and call them all kinds of names. Now that they aren't coming around we are starting to fret. Probably another part of nature that we have messed up and will have to pay the price for.  :(

Perhaps you could buy a couple of million from Australia, they have plenty.

You silly Billies, I don't want any flies......but we do need them or we are going to be in a sorry state in pretty sharp order...

I just noticed that there doesn't seem to be hardly any about....

They are on there way now mate.
Sorry they are late, it took more time than I thought to pack half a million little lunch boxes.
I was going to make them fly all the way but when I looked into their sad little eyes  :( x 1000,  I took pity on them and sent them by Australia post.
The shipping nearly broke the bank (30kg) but then I remembered to give the box a whack while they were on the scales and the weight dropped to 300 grams.  :smart:
Don't worry about the box having no return address, I don't need them back any time soon, still winter down here.

Cheers

Not too many deer flies camping this year (thankfully), but the mosquitoes are just the opposite.  Swarms of the damn things, in spite of bug repellant, citronella candles, torches and bug coils.  Lots of rain all summer, and the dry spell usual for this time of year hasn't happened to provide relief.

I don't recall the last time I've seen such green lawns near the end of August.

I'm spending to much time trying to keep up with the grass mowing.  :(

Same here Bernd, the grass is really green, even on the roadsides.

But the flowers don't seem to be doing so well this year and I'm at a loss as to why...

Strange thing that! I read it as files also.
Phil
Old semi drivers trick that, used to do the same thing driving loads of chickens interstate,
hit the side of the trailer hard enough all the chooks would fly up against the roof nearly lifting
the trailer wheels off the road, never had to worry about  scales at Broadford or Marulan.
Need those flies back please, cos the corks on me hat are getting lonely.

Note to All

We have all been wondering about the lack of flies this summer. I think that I may have figured out why.  :smart:

I seems that the city of Toronto, Ontario had a garbage strike that lasted quite a while. They had designated places that people could pile their garbage. Apparently this attracted quite a few flies, therefore a shortage world wide.

Now for the bad news. The strike is over and the garbage has all been cleaned up so the flies may be headed home to resume their regularly scheduled pesteful duties. :ddb: :ddb: :ddb:

Just thought you'd want to know!

Cheers
