Dave,

I have recently bought one, got mine from Arc Euro (it works out a bit cheaper, as delivery is usually less from Arc).

The four faced one at the bottom.

Great for wacking off big chunks of metal, and gives a reasonable finish when fine cuts and slow feeds are used.

Ohoooooooooo ...........   :dremel: I like that one John

I bought mine when I just had the X2, so I bought the smallest one available; now I feel a bigger version would be useful  ............... that's cool  :coffee:

As for using it, it's fast becoming my favourite milling cutter unless a specific size is needed, ie; slotting etc

Dave,

I only use it on hard materials, for brass and ali, the flycutter is my tool of choice.

I don't know if you have seen me show these before, but for the price, they are a great set and do those sometimes difficult little jobs. I have been using them for a few years now, and have been perfect for what I want them to do, and no sign of any of the indexable tips needing to be replaced yet.  Because they are the same profile both sides, they have at least six cutting edges each. If you bought the sets of replaceable tips for 16 squid, they should last you almost a lifetime.

The Little Hogger Set

If you do a search on the site for 'little hogger', you should find it listed elsewhere slightly cheaper. You should always do that on the Chronos site, don't take the first one you come across. I have just bought a Myford backplate 3 squid cheaper because it is listed in a different area.

CC - I remembered reading this thread some time ago and while I was browsing in RDG this morning looking at some of the second hand tooling in there, there was a new one of these milling cutters 2 1/2 inch. I asked him how much and because of a small amount of rusty gunk on the MT shaft, he said he couldn`t sell it as new and at full price and gave it me for £8. When I got it home it only took a little rubbing down to get rid of the mark (although I didn`t really need to bother) and installed it. I`ve been trying to cut some steel which my fly cutter with a HSS blade had really been struggling with. This thing shredded it in seconds! It was amazing and a really decent finish as well.

This is my first use with a carbide tipped tool and I beginning to wonder what I am missing out on in terms of lathe tools as well! Perhaps this is also an indication that I am still not correctly grinding and sharpening my tools correctly? If this miller can go through it no problem, so should a correctly ground HSS tool right?
