Manchester Bollards
« on: July 24, 2009, 07:25:44 AM »
I`ve just come back from Manchester where a car tried to get through an automatic bollard after a bus and they nearly smashed into it as it came back up. Trawling on youtube I just found this - it seems that it is common!!

The bollards have an auto-sensor to drop down with buses and other authorized vehicles:

Personally I think that anything that puts peoples lives in danger in this way should be accountable. It's not just the drivers but pedestrians as well.

It's one thing if you are fully aware of this system but many are clearly not.

We have no such things here, how would I know If I came across one following a bus? OK, some people are clearly waiting for buses to go though. But I don't believe that delivery driver did?

Read the signs you say, yes, while watching pedestrians for playing Lemmings as they do.......not to mention the younger ones running about.
You will find it a distinct help… if you know and look as if you know what you are doing. (IRS training manual)
