So I just bought myself a WM250V lathe from Warco. When I purchased it I noticed that the toolholder attaches to the crosslide with a T slots clamp arrangement. This looked like it was a bit close to the spindle. After discussion with one of the techs I was told the toolholder could be adjusted because of the T slots.
Having got the lathe the toolholder to spindle centre distance is 3.25" maximum. The largest diameter that could be turned with a tool is just over 6", which is a bit small for a lathe selling itself as a 10x22.
However I now find this is not the case as the tool-post has a pin which locates it in the crosslide. So I'm posting here to find out if anyone else has this problem and what the best coarse of action would be. I could remove the pin - not sure what it does anyway apart from registering the angle adjustment, or I could drill another hole further out to allow the post to be re-positioned.
And then I thought I would ask the madmodder experts because someone has almost certainly had this issue before.
Apart from this issue the lathe is pretty good. The VF drive is excellent, smooth and powerful, and goes down to well below 30 rpm.
Would be nice if the change gears cover was attached with a hinge or some form of clip because those knurled nuts and the safety interlock are an irritation.
Any help or other 'fixes' on this much appreciated.
Best Regards
