How KITAGAWA lathe power chuck works? Manual mode?

I have a chance to buy a "perfect" size KITAGAWA power chuck, that looks a lot like this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NICE-KITAGAWA-B-205-5-3-JAW-POWER-CHUCK-W-A-2-5-MOUNT-/361869134730?hash=item544114cb8a:g:LMAAAOSw2xRYar0Z
I like the size and jaw mount, sometimes the jaws are not even very expensive.
Now the size would be perfect for my manual lathe (and one project lathe) but how does the open/close mechanism work? Pretty sure it has no scroll.
Does it has an strong internal spring to keep chuck jaws closed and then needs and actuated part to push jaws open? Few mm of movement and loads of force?
I have one capstan lathe minus chuck and much of the spindle....is this fairly standard DIY project or does it needs a loads of very special parts that are not possible to make/design by use mere mortals?
Or it is just a daft idea and best to chuck it?

The jaw operator is on a ramp and is pushed and pulled open and closed by a (separate) hollow hydraulic cylinder co-axial with the spindle.
If you trawl through my thread on the Traub Lathe you will see the hoops I jumped through to fit an almost identical chuck to it.
It's probably about 2/3rds of the way through this thread:

Actual fitting starts about here:

(Though the acquisition and gloating started a bit earlier

Thank you. That answered all my questions. I'll chuck the idea

Thank you, but I think this is more simple, just a drawbar (pushbar?) in the middle and simple wedge actuating mechanism.

Still....if it had a big box jaws, I would be very tempted, but to use it manually would be too much of a task. I thought I could use a simple threaded tube a-la manual milling machine draw bar.

No reason that you couldn't fit a 'draw tube' to the back of the chuck through your spindle, and have a threaded 'closer wheel' rather like a collet closer to tighten and hence close, the chuck.
You might have to be a bit inventive if your spindle bore is a bit small

That turned out to be a red herring....Fine in all the counts but it is missing the centre part (wedge tha moves the jaws), it has T-nuts, but no jaws....explains the 160€ asking price.
Type is B206, pretty good othervice.

Bad luck
The one I fitted to the Traub said in it's documentation, that it was entirely interchangeable with a B206 - a very nice bit of engineering by Schunk
