Lads ( and ladies) where in UK can I get me paws on some of that plastic type coating cutters are often covered in either when new or after sharpening. Just seen Rays post of the router bits and thought- that's a good idea. But as he's been transported it's a bit far to go to cadge a lump off him  I seem to recall someone mentioning that it can be re used by warming up. Regards Ian |

Is this the stuff your after Ian https://www.cromwell.co.uk/shop/fasteners/hot-dip-coatings/protective-coating-red-hot-dip/f/7886?query=hot%20dip Rob |

ABS plastic dissolved in acetone works fairly well. |

Real stuff is called Crocell and is distinctly oily when it sets. There are Crocel pots available, but a deep fat fryer / chip fryer will do a nice job, but get one where the element is bonded to the outside of the base, not fitted internally, or clean out is a nightmare. |
Will_D:
Would not paraffin wax (aka Candles) do the same job? You could even colour code the protected items: black: Reamers red: Milling Cutter blue: Drill bit green: Taps pink: Gay things You could even use scented candles to sniff out lost tools! [sorry - long day - drink taken} |
