Looking on flea bay there are lots of cheap digital read outs , are they any good ?
I want to fit a read out to my lathe , what would the collective recommend
Mike -- If they are
good out of the box, they tend to stay good. If they are
bad out of the box, there is no salvation. Therefore, as
soon as you get one, set it up and take a number of
known measurements (several times) as a quick check. Be sure to run them off of a
power supply when you install them as the batteries go bad quickly when they get cold. With those caveats, I use them regularly.
I use the
Harbor Freight digital calipers quite a bit. I bring in a couple of the batteries and (say) four well "ranged" gage blocks to check them with before I purchase them. The only
bad ones were "gifts" from those who did not know the "secret."
