I found LED downlights in Poundland
http://www.poundland.co.uk/home-and-pet/around-the-home/lighting-and-electrical/gu10-led-bulb
bought one to try , I have a few of these lighting my mill and lathe and if you can get them close to the work they provied plenty of light , will be getting more of these cheap to run lights .

I was kind of chocked at first looking at the installation on your first picture, after following your link.
But then I saw that one is not GU10. More like GU5.3 for 12V.

The lights have sort of evolved most are 12 volt the fist picture is , the last pick is the gu10 at 240 volts , with all five on I use 10.8 watts and nothing gets hot .

Yes LEDs are pretty remarkable. Saves you not only from burning yourself, but also from burning a hole in your wallet while sheding some light over the workpieces.
