Dave
I have owned a Nexus 7 tablet Android " Google product" for a year now and absolutely love it. the User Interface with the computer is strikingly different to the regular PC set up, once mastered is quicker than any pc.
The nomenclature is different but the tablet does exactly the same as a pc plus more.
I am a Mechanical project manager and spend 50% of my time on the shop floor problem solving, I have a need to have my electronic library in my pocket for instant reference and tablets fill this need perfectly.
In my tablet i have a mirrored copy of my pc files all of which can be accessed, edited and added to, it reads PDF, Excell, Word, One Note I even have a CAD program on it.
I have a cloud account with Google to which i use for sharing and storage while not at my desk, this week I fly to London so while i am there I have my complete work hard-drive already there.
For my personal use, it has enhanced my time and knowledge in my work shop, I have my sketches of projects right there in the shop for reference, i take notes and pictures on projects, I have tap, drill, dovetail calculator and speed charts on it, I listen to music, it even acts a screen display for the DRO on my mill when i finally hook it up, and another handy feature is my wife emails me when its time for dinner.
APPS are the way to go, they are quick and efficient and do just one thing and do it well, plus they are cheep.
The cloud feature is not fully recognized yet by people of our level and is underused, but people are wary of it for privacy issues wrongly so in my opinion, I look at it this way, if your that stupid to put any information on a cloud system " or the Internet in general" that you do not want people to see you deserve to be burned.
Google is sucking up all internet information and storing it for profit, yet its a wonderful resource we all use, yet the concept of recording information on mass, storing it and using it for profit goes back 900 years "Google" the Manga Carta, them cats back then wanted there tax revenue brother.
To sum up, Study your tablet, get used to using the stylus for the interface fingers don't work, Get "Google Keep", its a note taking app, simple but very powerful, but most of all enjoy your technology and make it serve you to make you happy.
All the best
Anthony.
