Ama25LV or Sealey SM25
« on: March 09, 2015, 06:38:16 PM »
I have the choice of one of these milling machines. The Sealey is twice the weight of the Amadeal Mill. Any thoughts on the better one. Second hand price is about £400 for them. Both MT3

Thanks
Jon

Sealey seem to be a seller-on of a wide range of stuff. I have done price comparisons for a few items and found Sealey very expensive.

Amadeal are specialist suppliers with a good reputation for support.

Assuming that the mills are in good nick, I would go Amadeal.

Petes right about Amadeal but mass is good on a mill. Do you have links for the machines?

Edit: just done a Google and the Sealey seems to be a round column Mill Drill. Whilst nice and solid they can present some problems for users as you loose registration of the head (tooling) if you have to move it up or down for any reason. There are some ingenious ways round this but its basically a flawed design compared to what the Taiwanese and Germans have done with similar machines.

The Amadeal machine has a self ejecting drawbar so tool changing should be easier than on the Sealey but it shouldn't be a deal breaker.

The X3 mills are highly regarded (several retailers) but also look at the Warco WM series of mills, the 14,16 or 18 May suit.

Thanks for the replies, the sealey does look like a large 1970,s pillar drill. Also there seem to be a load of mods and upgrades for the Ama whilst Googling the Sealey brings up hardly any info. My Lathe is MT3 as is the Amadeal so I can share my chucks etc between them.

Re reading your OP Jon, it sounds like a good deal if you can get either for £400 if the condition is ok.
