Used the ramps today at work , just the job, actually the muts nuts ,,,,,,,,,,, so I will have them independently load tested tomorrow for insurance purposes .

Hi Mick , yerh used the plasma ,,,,,,,,,,,,,it worked a charm , only one flaw ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I keep setting things on fire with it

, used it to cut through two 3mm sheets at the same time , no grinding (well if it was getting TIG welded I would ) just knock the bit slag off and stick it together

How do they do that Rob, just roll a loaded vehicle up or is it more subtle than that - maybe a quash test in a press?

Just loaded up in a large press

I had 30 (real) tones on each one of them in my shop press , I only need 20 tone max on each .

Hi Chaps

Decided to do a bit work on the forge today , welded some very old and rusty steel onto the stand for feet .

and decided to cut a section of the hearth away .

First time I have used the yard vice ,

much better grinding out side , needs two mods , it's about 2" to high and it needs somewhere to hand a grinder

A yard vice is a must

Got a tad more done today ,was going great guns up until I pulled a muscle in my back

, so I will post this for now , first job this morning was to cut down the yard vice stand

by 2" and add two bits of flat bar so that I can hang gear from them .

Then another job I have been meaning to do is add a hook to the 8" grinder , this was made from a bolt .

That done I could get back on with the forge , I am using up my old rusty stock on this project , this was cleaned up with the above grinder .

and cut and welded into this .

this being to support the hood and back panel .

deciding whether to bolt or weld it to the hearth .

Tidy work as always there Rob! Shame you cut that vice down by 2" - I reckon I'm about 2" taller than you, it'd have fit me perfectly!

,,,,,,,,,,,,,maybe some tools and I was looking at some ye oldie locks in a museum that looked like they maybe interesting to have a go at .

But it will make a canny pie warmer when done

Done a bit more work on the forge today , still pondering the hood so decided to make a work rest to support long pieces .I did not want a floor stand , the floor is cluttered enough at time , I wanted something that will work in any position and stow away when not needed .

The Wilson rest

The long tube will have a tee bar thing fitted to support the work and the other end will be welded to the leg of the forge .

Got a wee bit more done tonight , fired up the hot snot gun for steel and a fixed the arm .

Made the tee bar and height adjuster doodad ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,all for the closest materials at hand .
